Legacy of Nelson Mandela to uplift community safety in Seraleng

North West MEC for Public Safety, Howard Yawa and senior managers from the provincial Department of Public Safety will on Tuesday, 20 July 2010, participate in a community safety upliftment project in Seraleng outside Rustenburg.

The project initiated by Anglo Platinum advances world icon and former President, Dr Nelson Rolihlahla Mandela’s legacy of active community safety. It involves volunteers from Anglo Platinum and will also be led by executive managers from the mining company.

The combined team of volunteers will build sidewalks, taxi or bus shelters and speed barriers. The intervention forms part of Anglo Platinum’s Community Safety, Health and Welfare programme implemented in partnership with the Provincial Public Safety Department and Rustenburg Local Municipality.

MEC Yawa says that the joint programme is aimed at ensuring that communities take ownership of safety in their areas.
