Learners receive school uniform

On 26 October 2013 the MEC for Sport, Arts, Culture and Recreation, Mr Dan Kgothule, asked parents of kids who do not have Identification Documents (IDs) and Birth Certificates to join him in his campaign to address the plight of vulnerable kids.

This was done as a joint program with SASSA, Home Affairs and IEC to assists around 900 kids from all schools around Kutlwanong/ Odendaalsrus to gain access to IDs and Birth Certificates. The program forms part of the MEC’s constituency work.

Mr Kgothule’s pursuit of this social program directly ties with the Free State Provincial Government commitment that after these IDs and Birth Certificates campaign “no child must sleep without food or shelter any longer”. It was as part of this campaign that Mr Kgothule also issued 51 blankets to needy kids at JC Motumi Secondary School on 28 September 2013. The MEC also issued out school uniforms to 51 needy children who were identified by the JC Motumi Secondary school.

This campaign coincided with the staging of the ninth O.R. Tambo Games which were staged in the Lejweleputswa District.

“With this initiative we seek to forge ahead with the commitment that as the children play during sports tournaments, we also address their social well- being in ensuring that they have access to all social amenities that government provides for them in line with O.R Tambo’s belief that educating an African child should be a collective effort of the broader society and not their parents only”, stated Mr Kgothule.
