KZN mourns the death of the Head of the Department of Community Safety and Liaison

KwaZulu-Natal Premier Mr Senzo Mchunu has expressed his shock following the untimely death of Mr Ronnie Vusimuzi Bhengu, the Head of the Department of Community Safety and Liaison.

“We received the sad news last night from the MEC for Community Safety and Liaison, Mr Willies Mchunu that Ronnie had succumbed to cancer at 1 Military Hospital in Pretoria.”

On behalf of the Provincial Government and the people of KwaZulu-Natal, we wish to convey our heartfelt condolences to the Bhengu family on the passing away of a father, a friend and a son who was loved by those who were close to him.

“We are deeply saddened by the passing away of this selfless fighter for a crime-free society, a patriot who served this province with zeal and enthusiasm.”

“Through his actions, he carved for himself a niche in the hearts and minds of the people of this province, especially law enforcement agencies including community policing forums and society at large.

“Ronnie passed away at a critical time when we are grappling with the task of fighting crime, eradicating drugs and ensuring peace and stability in this province.

“Always available to perform any task given to him, Ronnie was a tireless worker for the development of our people. Through his principled engagements; he infused a belief in all of us that the impossible was indeed possible.”

“It was through his dedication that the campaign for the United Front against Crime became entrenched in various communities. In Ronnie, we have lost a true revolutionary and an optimist who was determined to rid this province of crime and drugs. He genuinely loved the people of the province of KwaZulu-Natal and he served them until his last days.

“Once more, we express our sincere sympathies to the family, friends, MEC for Community Safety and Liaison Mr Willies Mchunu and the entire department.”
