KwaZulu-Natal Treasury donates water tankers at Enqolobaneni Home for Children with disabilities

HOD Simiso Magagula rolls out three-pronged help to deserving people

During the first leg of his service delivery tour, head of KZN Treasury, Simiso Magagula, has put smiles on over one hundred disabled children through his donation of water tanks and water reticulation infrastructure to ENqolobaneni Home for Children with disabilities at Stanger today.

Magagula said: “We identified this home during our Operation Sukuma Sakhe visit in March this year and we committed a water tank and piping of all the tanks they have in order to address their water scarcity challenges.”

Kenneth Mthunzi, board chairperson of the home, said the donation will assist in providing consistent drinking water and use it for other needs at the home.

“Water is a key requirement in life and for these children living with disabilities. When all the tanks are connected through Treasury’s help, we will have fixed all our water problems,” said Mthunzi.

Magagula then moved to KwaDukuza where he addressed scores of government employees on financial literacy. Magagula warned the public servants of the dangers of debt and encouraged them to save money. This financial literacy programme is done in partnership with the Office of the Premier’s Office in a bid to engage government employees on saving money.

The head of department’s day-long crusade proceeded to uMdoni Municipality in the South Coast where he donated 10 laptops to Qiko High School, situated in the deep rural area away from the necessary educational resources.

Bongiwe Ntombela, Circuit Manager, said the donation to Qiko High School is going to improve the standard of learning at the school. “In such a deep rural school, the only source of information is the teachers. But with the help of these 10 computers, the standard of learning is going to improve. We are now going to start introducing computer technology as a subject,” she said.

Speaking on behalf of the learners, the 21 year-old Qaphelani Mbhele, grade 12 learner, said “Since we are from such a deep rural area, it was very difficult to get access to internet. With this computer support from Treasury, we will conquer the world,” said Mbhele.

Magagula said the assistance given by KZN Treasury to community organisations and schools has been going on for many years.

“This government cares and will continue to make interventions to alleviate the impact of poverty and unemployment in our communities. This is in line with the provincial government ethos of Operation Sukuma Sakhe. We will also continue to assist needy schools in our province so that the standard of teaching and learning can improve beyond what it is today,” he said.
