In an effort to raise awareness on gender based violence, MEC for Human Settlements, Safety and Liaison, Helen Sauls-August, Nelson Mandela Metro ,Cllr Ben Fihla and SABC General Manager, Zola Yeye and SAPS will lead a march with pastors, councillors to a rape incident spot where a 14 year old girl was allegedly raped.
The march will be held as part of 16 days of Activism on No Violence Against Women and Children disabilities in KwaZakhele Township on Monday. Men are expected to wear high heel shoes in support of the theme for this project: “Put yourself in their shoes.”
This campaign is joint initiative by SABC, SAPS, women’s network, Men for Change and Nelson Mandela Metro Municipality to assist the 16 year old mother who suffered a traumatizing ordeal after being raped in 2011 at the age of 14 and currently lives in a shack with her young child and brother.
The theme seeks to invite men from all walks of life to pledge not to turn a blind eye against women and children abuse. The march will be led by the MEC, Mayor, radio personalities and members of the religious fraternity. A new house will also be handed over to the family in Chatty after the march in Kwazakhele.
The programme will launch the provincial 16 Days of Activism on No Violence against Women and Children.
