Ingula memorial service

KwaZulu-Natal Premier Mr Senzo Mchunu and Public Enterprises Minister Melusi Gigaba today met families of the six workers who died during a tunnel collapse in Ingula Pumped Storage Scheme last week.

Relatives and coworkers today held a memorial service for the six who died during the incident where seven others required medical treatment. Four were still reported to be in ICU while three were treated and discharged.

Mchunu commended Eskom for taking a decision to halt all work and review safety procedures.

Mchunu urged management of all state owned enterprises like Eskom, to conduct themselves in a manner that does not place government in a difficult position of having to deal with tragedies that can be prevented by proper safety procedures.

Chairperson of the Eskom Board Mr Zola Tsotsi said the parastatal has taken a stance that says there will be no electricity produced at the cost of human life.
