Independent Complaints Directorate (ICD) nabs a South African Police Service (SAPS) officer for allegedly shooting a colleague

The Independent Complaints Directorate (ICD) arrested a 43 year old Vereeniging SAPS based warrant officer for allegedly shooting and killing a fellow officer. The incident occurred in the evening of 25 April 2010 at a tavern next to the accused home in Evaton.

Apparently the accused arrived home in a marked police vehicle to find another car parked in front of his gate. He went inside his house and came out a few minutes later and proceeded straight into the tavern across the road.

Whilst inside the tavern, the accused alleged that someone attacked him with a bottle from behind. Gun shots were fired that left a 40 year old female police officer dead. ICD officials were called to the scene and upon arrival apprehended the accused.

He appeared at Sebokeng magistrate court today, 28 April 2010 and he was released on warning. The case was postponed to 24 May 2010 for further investigation.
