Independent Complaints Directorate (ICD) arrests three police officers for shooting a motorist

The Independent Complaints Directorate has arrested four police officers in Pretoria this afternoon 12 July 2010.

The arrest follows the shooting of a motorist, Mr Nkosinathi Ntuli (23), who was allegedly driving on the wrong side of the road facing on-coming traffic.

The incident happened at the corner of Boom and Cowie Streets in Pretoria. The deceased, who is from Doornpoort, was driving a Toyota Run-x. The police were driving an unmarked vehicle. The driver of the police vehicle was not wearing a uniform, while the other three occupants were in uniform.

ICD investigators attended the scene of the shooting and arrested the four police officers, a captain, two sergeants and a warrant officer. The ICD's investigators will attend the post mortem to be held tomorrow.

The police officers remain in custody and they are likely to appear in court tomorrow, 13 July 2010.
