Indaba held in recognition of Youth Month

The Eastern Cape Department of Health held a four day Provincial Youth Health Indaba from 23 to 26 June 2009 at the Walter Sisulu University’s Berlin Campus.

The main objectives of the Indaba were mainly to engage young people representing all districts regarding issues affecting them in the delivery of health services in the province, and also to provide the youth of the province with an opportunity to reflect and recommend improvements to health services affecting them.

Xolile Maphosa, a youth delegate from Amathole District said the Indaba was an excellent platform for young people of the province to get together and engage in issues of importance for them. “It is evident to us as young people that the Health department is willing to work closely with the youth in bringing services closer to the people,” Maphosa said.

The youth delegates pleaded with the department to make the Indaba a continuous programme as issues affecting youth are emerging on a daily basis.
