Home Affairs Offices to remain open on 10 November for ID applications

Home Affairs offices across the country will remain open from 8h00 - 17h00 on Sunday, 10 November 2013 as directed by Minister Naledi Pandor and as part of the voter registration weekend as proclaimed by the IEC.

In this regard, Minister Pandor, Deputy Minister Fatima Chohan and Director-General Mkuseli Apleni were on Saturday 9 November 2013 out in the Free State, Western Cape, Gauteng and the Eastern Cape provinces respectively to coordinate Home Affairs services to the citizens who require IDs, temporary identity certificates or to collect uncollected IDs for purposes of voter registration.

The three principals are expected to continue to provide support to Home Affairs staff in our endeavour to deliver critical services to the public in the Free State, Gauteng and Eastern Cape respectively on Sunday 10 November 2013. They are supported in this work by Home Affairs Deputy Directors-General who are deployed to all other provinces across the country for the duration of the voter registration weekend

As Minister Pandor stated all Home Affairs offices including mobile units are deployed across the country to assist those who require our departmental services for purposes of voter registration to enable them to exercise their democratic right to vote in the 2014 national elections. The Home Affairs operations went smoothly on Saturday and helped facilitate the issuing of identity documents, temporary identity certificates and uncollected IDs.

The government reiterates the call by the IEC for all South Africans particularly the youth of our country to take advantage of the weekend to register or verify their status to vote in the forthcoming 2014 national elections which will coincide with the 20 years of peace, freedom and democracy in South Africa.

As Home Affairs, our officials stand ready to continue to render services on Sunday 10 November to all those who are in dire need of identity documents, temporary identity certificates or uncollected IDs, in our offices across the length and breadth of our country

The final tally of those who received services for voter registration will be released on Sunday 10 November 2013 after closure of our offices.
