The Eastern Cape Department of Health celebrated women's month at the Ukhahlamba District with the focus on women's health.
The event was done in a form of an outreach where health professionals visited the Aliwal North, Burgersdorp, Sterkspruit, Venterstad and Mt Fletcher areas and educated women, shared information and persuaded them to go for cervical cancer screening.
According to Ms Khephukazi Mjamba, Manager Special Programmes Unit, the outreach was needed in that area as statistics showed that most of women there lacked information on the issue. The women were very excited and showed interest to the service brought to them, hence they came in numbers for screening.
Speaking at the main event, Acting District Manager Mrs Nyangintsimbi applauded the department for bringing the service to that area. She further encouraged women to go to their clinics and screen themselves for early detection and treatment.
