KwaZulu-Natal MEC for Transport, Community Safety and Liaison Mr Willies Mchunu has expressed his sadness about the accident that occurred early this afternoon around 13h30 involving a minibus taxi and truck.
It is alleged that the truck driver experienced brake failure causing him to lose control of the truck and collide head-on with an oncoming taxi. The taxi is known to be operating locally in the area of kwaNgenetsheni, whilst the accident occurred on the R34 Ngoma area near Vryheid. Twelve (12) people died at the scene and three people sustained serious injuries and were transported to the Vryheid hospital.
MEC Willies Mchunu will be visiting the survivors in hospital tomorrow, 23 June 2010.
