H Yawa on traffic management during 2010 World Cup matches

Traffic around the Royal Bafokeng stadium was cleared within an hour after the incident-free New Zealand and Slovakia match played on Tuesday afternoon.

Though the crowd of 21 000 spectators that attended the match was far less than the capacity crowd that attended the England and United States of America's match, the exit strategy for spectators was better organised due to adjustments on road closures, traffic control on the N4 and circle on the R565 Phokeng-Boshoek-Sun City road and removing off-loading and pick-up points for R104 park and ride from R565 link road to the ring road behind the stadium.

North West MEC for Public Safety, Howard Yawa, says that adjustments made to the transport plan based on the England and United of America's experiences have proved effective and will be implemented during the Ghana and Australia match to be played at the venue on Saturday.

"Every match offers us with an opportunity to improve certain aspects of our operations as we have a long term objective to offer the venue for safe sporting events to be hosted at the stadium," says MEC Yawa.

In anticipation of a larger crowd, road closures and operations at park and ride facilities for the match will commence at 09h00. Yawa urges spectators to arrive early to avoid traffic congestion on the ring road.
