Government revises wage offer

Government last night tabled a revised wage offer at a sitting of the Public Service Coordinating and Bargaining Council (PSCBC).

The revised offer by government is for a seven percent salary increase, a move on housing allowance from R630 to R700 as well as a pay progression of 1.5 percent.

In the realisation of government’s commitment to improving the living conditions of public servants, Minister for the Public Service and

Administration Richard Baloyi has reiterated that the matter of a sustainable housing allowance or plan will be dealt with comprehensively in the second phase of negotiations to commence in October 2010.

Issues that will also be dealt with in the second phase of negotiations include:

  • The equalisation of medical subsidy for non Government Employees Medical Scheme Members (GEMS)
  •  The synchronisation of the salary negotiations with the budget cycle by government
  •  The introduction of a multi-term focus in salary negotiations
  •  The review of the remuneration policy
  • The building sustainable capacity in our negotiators.

Having tabled the offer, the employer awaits labour as it consults with their members on the revised offer.

Government remains committed to resolving this matter as a matter of urgency to focus on service delivery initiatives.
