Gauteng on war against drugs in Eldorado Park

Government’s plans yield results on war against drugs in Eldorado Park

Fifty-seven (57) drug dealers were arrested in Eldorado Park over the weekend and are still in police custody.

"To date, 2 062 have been charged with illegal possession of drugs and dagga, 146 cases have been referred for diversion programmes", said General Phumzo Gela, Deputy Provincial Commissioner, Operational Services Unit.

As part of the anti-drug action campaign in Eldorado Park, government is focusing on three areas of intervention to combat substance abuse namely demand reduction, harm reduction and supply reduction in order to curb the problem of drug abuse in the area.

"Let this serve as a warning to other criminals that we are coming for them and that we will not stop until every drug pusher in Eldos is placed behind bars for a very long time. Gauteng is indeed a caring government and will stop at nothing in ensuring a safe environment for children", said Premier Nomvula Mokonyane.

The provincial government has established a toll-free number (0800 33 33 88) linked to social workers in the Department of Social Development to assist with information and queries related to the programme. An additional three offices was also set up at Mount Carmel Church, Eldorado Park to service all queries of the community.
