Gauteng singing talent invited to audition for Lion King Theatre production.

The Gauteng Department of Sports Arts Culture and Recreation Gauteng is excited to be working with the renowned Word of Mouth Pictures for its 2024,

THE LION KING theatre talent search programme happening from this coming weekend.

The production house is a casting agency for World Disney which produces this world-acclaimed South African conceived production. They are looking for South African singing talent between the ages of 18 and 50, to be part of the production in various parts of the world.

To support, the department has joined forces with the production house to ensure the identification of the massive vocal talent within its shores. This will now see the planned auditions extended to three (3) days instead of one (1), with the addition of two (2) more regions.

They (auditions) will be held at the Market Theatre on 27 January; the South African State Theatre in Pretoria on 29 January; and the Dumisani Masilela Theatre in Germiston on 31 January.

Gauteng MEC for Sports, Arts, Culture and Recreation Morakane Mosupyoe is enthused by the dedication to have South African talent into the production.

“The Lion King continues to be one of the iconic productions by a South African to the World and it is gratifying to see the commitment to keep the genuine flavour of South Africa in the storytelling even after more than 2 decades. We also support the belief that South African voices can be able to authenticate the telling of the story in the production through sounds and song. With this, the Lion King production will surely continue to live and enthuse generations for decades to come”, says MEC Morakane Mosupyoe.

All auditions will be led by the legendary talent scout and TV producer, Mr. Duma Ndlovu. Shortlisted candidates will proceed to further audition in front of the World Disney team in South Africa later in the year, from which successful ones will be placed in various productions in different countries across the world.
