Gauteng to rally behind Orlando Pirates

Gauteng province, the home of champions, is embarking on a mobilisation campaign to drum up support for Orlando Pirates football club in its quest for the second star. The Gauteng based team plays against Egypt’s Al Ahly during the first leg of the CAF Champions League finals at Orlando Stadium this Saturday.

The Gauteng department of Sport, Arts, Culture and Recreation has committed to ensuring maximum support at-least from the community of Gauteng. Over one thousand tickets have been mobilised towards ensuring that Orlando stadium is filled to capacity and thereby ascertaining support for Pirates on match day.

The tickets have been distributed to schools, communities and soccer clubs. MEC Lebogang Maile handed over more tickets to soccer fans of various Gauteng based teams this afternoon.

“Not only is Pirates looking forward to gaining a second star but it is also looking at halting the dominance of North African teams in continental football, thereby putting Southern African soccer on the limelight. For them to have advance thus far is indeed an honour and pride for Gauteng, South Africa and for Southern Africa,” says MEC for Sport, Arts, Culture and Recreation Lebogang Maile.

“To show our support let us don our soccer or sport jerseys on Saturday,  2 November and go fill Orlando Stadium when Pirates put their one hand onto the trophy”, concluded MEC Maile
