The Gauteng Department of Sport, Arts, Culture and Recreation (SACR) is happy that seven bands from the Puisano Live music project will participate in this year's Gauteng's main jazz events being the Standard Bank Joy of Jazz and the Moretele Jazz festivals.
The Joy of Jazz will be held in Newtown from 26 to 28 August while Moretele festival is in Mamelodi on 29 August.
The bands, selected following Gauteng province-wide auditions last year led by the department (SACR) will showcase their talent during these two international events later this month. Puisano which is a Tswana/Sotho word for conversation/discussion was initiated in 2001 to provide and create market access for developing, unsigned and unrecorded bands. It is also aimed at promoting and sustaining the growth of live music circuit in the province targeting especially townships.
Three bands will perform at the on 27 August and the other four on 28 at Joy of Jazz Arts festival in Newtown at the free entrance venues (see further below). The bands will also perform on 29 August at the Moretele Jazz festival in Mamelodi.
“Events like the Standard Bank Joy of Jazz and Moretele Jazz go a long way in getting Gauteng realise goals of its Growth and Development Strategy (GDS). Through the subsequent Gauteng Provincial Creative Industries Development Framework (CIDF) our creative industry is focused on maximising its contribution to the economy, community development and urban regeneration and to provide a coordinating framework for investment and implementation in the province,” said MEC for Sport, Arts, culture and Recreation Ms Nelisiwe Moerane.
