Gauteng MEC for Community Safety Faith Mazibuko applauds the swift reaction of SAPS Crime Intelligence in Tile Africa robbery

The Gauteng MEC for Community Safety, Faith Mazibuko, applauded the swift reaction of the South African Police Service (SAPS) crime intelligence unit in the botched Tile Africa robbery in Ekurhuleni this afternoon.

During the robbery, a shootout ensued between the would-be robbers and the law enforcement officers resulting in the death of a member of the SAPS crime intelligence unit, two members of the Ekurhuleni Metro Police Department (EMPD) sustaining injuries, three suspects shot and two others sustaining injuries. The two wounded suspects are under police guard in hospital.

"I applaud all the law enforcers involved in the swift reaction and stopping these heinous criminals in their tracks. This is an indication to criminals that we are everywhere and we will pounce when you least expect it. Those that were involved will face the wrath of law," said MEC Faith Mazibuko.

The MEC also sent her heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family of the SAPS crime intelligence unit whose member was killed during the confrontation.
