Gauteng emergency medical services ready for soccer world cup

The Gauteng emergency medical services will be out in full force during the two World Cup soccer matches to be staged in the province on Wednesday. United State of America will take on Algeria at Loftus stadium in Tshwane while Germany will play against Ghana at Soccer City stadium outside Soweto.

In an effort to ensure that no adverse incident occur at the two venues 258 emergency services personnel, 19 ambulances, one disaster bus and two response vehicles will be deployed at Soccer City, while 88 EMS personnel, 14 ambulances, an all terrain vehicle and one response vehicle will be deployed at Loftus stadium.

A further 35 ambulances have been deployed in between the teams that are based in the province at hotels, training venues, fan parks, Public viewing areas and at fen fests.

The department is happy that so far the emergency services have been able to adequately deal adequately with any situation since the tournament started last week. Even the world soccer governing body FIFA has expressed confidence in the provinces emergency medical services’ ability to deal with any emergencies should any occur.
