The Gauteng Department of Finance clarifies the matter of the review of tenders worth R8 billion

The reprioritisation process, which saw the review of a number of contracts in Gauteng, was completed as part of aligning government resources to the new electoral mandate. This was to allow for the creation of internal capacity, unlock resources for other pressing social needs, whilst ensuring we derive value for each rand spent.

It must be stated forthright that the review process did not come as a consequence of any wrong decision that may have been taken previously. The manifesto of the African National Congress (ANC) spoke of a change in policy focus and direction and as such this must be reflected in the projects of government. The amount of R8 billion, therefore, refers to what the provincial government calculated to be savings by reviewing contracts between provincial government, agencies and other parties.
