The Lockdown’s Level 1 presents an opportunity for Free State tourism to welcome visitors to its sought after attractions. This festive season, the province is ready for travelers and visitors, whether you are seeking nature, adventure or chasing sunset relaxation, Free State is the destination to escape to.
The only province sharing borders with six others and a sovereign country, the Free State is blessed with remarkable landscapes, warm hospitality and well-developed National roads. Situated at the centre of South Africa, the Free State should not be a go through but a go to province. In the east you have the border of KZN where the world renowned Sentinel is found, the confluence of Caledon and Orange River in the south and the breathtaking Vaal River in the north. This is undoubtedly where to be, to hit the refresh button.
Known as the Food Basket of the nation, the Free State boosts amazing Agri-tourism activities. Fun-seekers can enjoy great outdoor adventures such as cherry picking in Ficksburg and cycling at the 12 km mountain bike trail at the Bokpoort Mountain Biking Trail in the spectacular Maluti Mountain Range. Guest farms also offer a variety of farm experiences like milking cows at the dairy, harvesting crops, testing and buying farm produce.
Nestled 107.9 km from the N3 and 320 km from Johannesburg, for heritage and cultural tourism, the Basotho Cultural Village takes you for a walk down the pathway of time. It is here where the lifestyle and architecture of the Basotho people is accurately erected to portray the dramatically colorful past of the Basotho. The facilities have communal braai areas that are shared amongst families sharing the kraal and also private Weber braai facilities for every chalet.

For outdoor adventure, the Free State boosts 14 reserves with game such as Black Wildebeest, Eland, Blesbok, Gemsbok, Giraffe, Red Hartebeest, Springbok and White Rhino to mention but a few.
