In an effort to strengthen governance and improve service delivery in the province, the Hon. Premier has decided to make the following changes to the Executive Council:
The Hon. Premier has decided to re-assign the responsibility for Human Settlements to the MEC for Public Works and Infrastructure. Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs (COGTA) shall now be a stand-alone portfolio, assigned to its own MEC.
The New Appointments for MECs are as follows;
- MEC for Health: Honourable Montsheng Tsiu
- MEC for Social Development: Honourable Butana Komphela
- MEC for CoGTA: Honourable Oupa Khoabane
- MEC for DESTEA: Honourable Maki Mahasa
- MEC for Agriculture & Rural Development: Honourable Dr. Benny Malakoane.
“I would like to thank the MECs who have been appointed in new portfolios for their dedication whilst they were serving in their previous portfolios. I would like to wish them well in their new portfolios and have confidence that they will be equal to the task.
I would also like to take this opportunity to welcome the new member of the Executive Council, Honourable Montseng Tsiu, who brings a wealth of experience after working in the healthcare sector for many years. Hon. Montseng is a seasoned health activist, a trade unionist and a humble dedicated leader of our people. I wish her well in her new responsibility” – the Hon. Premier said.
MEC Montsheng Tsiu is also the former Chairperson of Nehawu in the province. Prior to being sworn in as a Member of the Free State Legislature, Honourable Montseng Tsiu was a Manager for Nusring Services at the Free State Department of Health.
“The above changes to the Executive Council are intended to accelerate the implementation of radical socio-economic transformation, and to ensure that we work together to ensure that the lives of our people are changed for the better” – the Hon. Premier concluded.
