Female Entrepreneur of the Year 2010 competition-MEC Shushu encourages women compensations

The Northern Cape Department of Agriculture, Land Reform and Rural Development MEC Norman Shushu says women compensation must be encouraged at all times. MEC Shushu was speaking at the provincial Female Entrepreneur of the Year Awards in Machand near Augrabies on Thursday, 5 August 2010.

The Female Entrepreneur of the Year Awards is an instrument through which women's contribution to the fight against poverty is been recognised and encouraged.

The awards also seeks to acknowledge women as the lifeline of society and the custodians of food security whose role is critical in improving the quality and quantity of agricultural products through improved delivery, innovations and excellences.

MEC Shushu highlighted that achievements of women in agriculture reflects the strides they have made in making sure that various communities benefit. He called on all participants who have not won not to give up and said everyone who took part in the competition was a winner.

The total money that was at stake for this year's competition was R1 625,000. The six provincial categories winners will represent the province in the National Female Entrepreneur of the Year 2010 competition to be held later in August in the Eastern Cape province.

The Female Entrepreneur of the Year 2010 competition is being sponsored by Total South Africa.
