Electoral Commission on candidates contesting municipal by-elections on 7 March 2018

One municipal ward by-election will take place in the Eastern Cape province on Wednesday, 7 March 2018.

Five candidates from five political parties will contest the by-election.  

Details of the by-election are as follows: 

  • Ward 1 in the Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality – NMA will be contested by Johanna Marianne Lotter of the African Christian Democratic Party (ACDP); Siviwe Ngaba of the African National Congress (ANC); Rashied Adams of the Congress of the People (COPE); Tracy Leigh Weise of the Democratic Alliance (DA); and Awethu Fatyela of the Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF). The ward was previously represented by the DA and became vacant as a result of the termination of the councilor membership from the party.
     

The voter turnout for this ward in the 2016 Municipal Elections was 65.95% and the DA candidate won the ward with 85.64% of valid votes.
