Electoral Commission on Candidates contesting Municipal By-elections on 6 December 2023 

Three (3) municipal ward by-elections will take place in the KwaZulu-Natal; North West and Western Cape on Wednesday, 6 December 2023.
 
The by-elections will be contested by one (1) Independent candidate and eight (8) candidates from four (4) political parties. 
 
KwaZulu-Natal
 

  • Ward 07 in the Mkhambathini Municipality – KZN226, will be contested by three (3) candidates. 1. Nkosinathi Emmanuel Ndlovu of the African National Congress (ANC); 2. Sihle Nyadi of the Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF), and 3. Zuzeni Annacletta Shange of the Inkatha Freedom Party (IFP).   
  • The ward was previously represented by the ANC and became vacant as a result of the councilor’s death. The voter turnout for this ward in the 2021 Municipal Elections was 49,38%. 

North West 

  • Ward 06 in the Rmotshere Moiloa Municipality – NW385, will be contested by one (1) Independent candidate; Phemelo Moroeng and three (3) political candidates.

1. Modise Patrick Moabi of the ANC; 

2. Tiroyamodimo Sebusa of the EFF, and 3. Thabo Seswana of the Forum 4 Service Delivery.  
 
The ward was previously represented by the ANC and became vacant as a result of the councillor’s death. The voter turnout for this ward in the 2021 Municipal Elections was 41;36%. 
 
Western Cape
 

  • Ward 06 Saldanha Bay Municipality – WC014, will be contested by two (2) candidates. 1. Zuko Mpika; of the ANC; and 2. Mthobeli Thwala of the EFF.    

The ward was previously represented by the ANC and became vacant as a result of the councilor’s death. The voter turnout for this ward in the 2021 Municipal Elections was 43,40%
