Eastern Cape Education on back to school campaign

QLTC Provincial Steering Committee calls for citizen support to the back to school campaign

The Eastern Cape Provincial Quality Learning and Teaching Campaign Steering Committee (QLTC) calls on all citizens to make a concerted effort to participate in the back to school campaign.

Driven by zeal to ensure proper stakeholder participation in education, a first joint stakeholder advocacy campaign led by the QLTC will be launched on Monday the 13th of January 2013 at the East London Education Institute at 12h00 noon.

Built on the principles that:

Overcoming poverty is not a task of charity; it is an act of justice. Like slavery and apartheid, poverty is not natural. It is man-made and it can be overcome and eradicated by the actions of human beings. Sometimes it falls on a generation to be great. You can be that great generation. Let that greatness blossom. (Nelson Mandela)

Additionally, in the fight to advance Education in our society, the QLTC steering committee believes that attending the triple challenge: Poverty, Unemployment and Inequality is crucial towards mobilising citizens in changing the Education Landscape in this Province. Therefore, since education has been cited as the number one priority of the five government apex priorities, the Department of Education has launched the Quality Learning and Teaching Campaign (QLTC) at National, Provincial, District and school levels to ensure that the culture of learning and teaching remains a key driver in our fight against poverty but stakeholder driven this time.

Since key to the QLTC is active citizenship as education concerns everyone, this campaign will be anchored around shared and common national, continental and global interests in it, to help better our provincial pass rate. This active citizenship forms part of the strong and healthy backbone for our education as communities welcome diversity in cultural expression, values and lifestyles.

The QLTC steering committee believes that advancing development in the province can no longer be outsourced rather needs each and every citizen, government, businesses, the media, unions, and civil society organisations. This partnership will ensure greater understanding and improved engagements towards a common and shared set of values for a better society. A successful government depends on citizens partnership with, civil society, unions, business, and elected representatives.

Walking together the talk to influence change in our lifetime!
