Deputy President confirms the state of readiness in hosting the 2010 FIFA World Cup, City of Rustenburg

Deputy President Kgalema Motlanthe accompanied by Cabinet Ministers and senior government officials today, 5 June 2010, visited the North West province, City of Rustenburg.

The Deputy President was welcomed by the King of the Bafokeng Nation, Kgosi Leruo Molotlegi. Deputy President Motlanthe conveyed words of appreciation to the king and his nation, for contributing towards the successful hosting of the 2010 World Cup.

“The City of Rustenburg has proven beyond reasonable doubt that is able to host the soccer spectacular,” says Deputy President.

Deputy President Motlanthe said the fact that huge numbers of visitors, from all over the world, started arriving in the city ahead of the soccer extravaganza and the outstanding excitement and joy the 2010 FIFA World
Cup has brought to our people in the province, indeed is a demonstration of the city’s preparedness and readiness to host this historical event.

The host city will host about six matches, kicking off on 12 June 2010 with England up-against the United States of America (USA). Other teams that will play in the province include Ghana, Japan, Denmark, Mexico, Uruguay, and Australia.

During his visit the Deputy President had the opportunity to inspect the Trauma and Emergency facilities of the Moses Kotane Hospital, one of the country’s state of the art hospitals. This hospital will ensure that requisite medical care expertise and equipment are deployed in cases of disasters.

Moses Kotane is one of the projects that the late Deputy Minister of Health, Mr Molefe Sefularo, selflessly provided leadership in its completion.

Deputy President Motlanthe also inspected the Western by-pass road that represents an infrastructure development project which will leave a positive legacy in the city in-terms of road transport mobility.

“I am also impressed by the preparedness of services such as transport; telecommunications, information and technology; safety and security; accommodation; energy and water which will enhance the hosting of this event,” says Deputy President Motlanthe.

The Deputy President, in conclusion of his visit to the North West Province in Rustenburg, had the opportunity to interact with members of the surrounding communities at the Fields College FIFA Fan Park.
