Deputy Minister Thabethe arrives in Turkey on an Outward Selling and Investment Mission

The Deputy Minister of Trade and Industry, Ms Elizabeth Thabethe has arrived in Turkey where she is leading a delegation of business people on an Outward Selling and Investment Mission to the cities of Istanbul and Ankara from today to 29 November 2013.

According to Deputy Minister Thabethe, the mission is an ideal opportunity for South African companies that are looking to export value-added products and services and for companies that are looking for foreign investment in Turkey.

The targeted sectors for the mission are energy, mining and jewellery, infrastructure, Information and Communication Technology, capital equipment, engineering, textiles and clothing.

Thabethe says that the mission will serve as an indicator to determining the progress made since the signing of the South Africa-Turkey Joint Economic Cooperation Agreement in February 2012, where the two countries committed themselves to enhancing trade and boosting economic relations.

Our government has put all the necessary measures in place to ensure that we provide our business people with the best platform for exploring the Turkish market, and establishing a footprint.

"Turkey is also looking to expand its trade relations with the African continent and I believe that our Joint Economic Declaration we signed in 2012 to boost economic relations puts us ahead of our African peers," said Thabethe.

She added that she looked forward to the South African delegation taking full advantage of the opportunity and securing fruitful joint ventures that would ensure South Africa’s growth in the Turkish economy.

The planned activities for the mission will include trade and investment seminars, business-to-business meetings, round table discussions and site visits to potential partner projects.
