Deputy Minister Thabang Makwetla conveys condolences to family of Judge Tembile Skweyiya

The Deputy Minister of Justice and Correctional Services, Thabang Makwetla, has learnt with shock and is deeply saddened by the news of the untimely passing on of the Presiding Judge of the Judicial Inspectorate for Correctional Services, Justice Thembile Skweyiya.

Justice Skweyiya was appointed recently (May 2015) as Head of the Judicial Inspectorate of Correctional Services (JICS). During his brief stint he immediately embraced this assignment with unparalleled zeal and displayed deep commitment to bring about transformation in the functioning of JICS.

His service to the South African public particularly through his illustrious career in the legal and judicial fraternity leaves a mark punctuated by a pedigree of excellence, integrity and hard work. The pain of his death is shared, not only by his loved ones, but by many who fought side by side with him during the struggle to bring about constitutional democracy, peace and social progress.

Through his virtues and legacy in promoting human rights, he will remain alive in fond memory and prayers amongst many of his colleagues, peers and society at large.

On behalf of the Office of the Deputy Minister of Justice and Correctional Services, I wish to join the Honourable Minister of Justice and Correctional Services, Adv. Masutha, in conveying deepest condolences and sympathies to his family, loved ones and the staff at the Judicial Inspectorate of Correctional Services.
