Deputy Minister Rejoice Mabudafhasi on National Book Week activities

Deputy Minister Mabudafhasi continues to lead National Book Week Activities to promote reading and enhance nation building and social cohesion

Arts and Culture Deputy Minister Rejoice Mabudafhasi, MP, in partnership with the South African Book Development Council (SABDC) will embark on reading campaign #Goingplaces #BuyaBook to emphasise the importance of reading as part of National Book Week activities in Limpopo.

This campaign reflects the physical journey of the Bus Tour travelling throughout South Africa, as well as the magic of books and how reading books can both figuratively and literally take you places. Various publishers such as Pan Macmillan SA, Penguin Random House SA, and NB Publishers have offered discounted books that will be sold at a minimal cost of R20 in Bargain Books and Exclusive Books stores nationwide.

“The importance of reading in order to achieve success in life is foundational for the individual and essential for nation building and social cohesion. The Department of Arts and Culture’s Mzansi Golden Economy (MGE) strategy recognises the power of the book sector to contribute to job creation, poverty reduction, skills development and, above all, economic growth”, stated Mabudafhasi.

“The National Book Week is a strategic intervention to promote a reading culture that will enhance the prominence and socio-economic impacts of the South African book sector both locally and globally”, said Deputy Minister Mabudafhasi.

As September marks Heritage Month celebrations under the theme,“Our indigenous knowledge, our heritage: Towards the identification, promotion and preservation of South African’s living heritage,” the campaign will amongst others also seek to promote, national identity and to enhance nation building and social cohesion.
