Department clarifies concerns around excemptions for public transport operators

The Gauteng Department of Roads and Transport, in conjunction with SANRAL, has to date registered and exempted a total of 45 700 public transport operators from the e-toll tariffs.

Those who qualify for this exemption are public transport operators in possession of valid permits and operating licences and whose vehicles are registered on the eNatis system.

Those exempted constitutes the vast majority of taxis operating in the province.

Public transport operators that transport commuters on a daily basis from neighbouring provinces to Gauteng also qualify for exemptions and should contact SANRAL if they wish to register for exemptions.

However, public transport operators from other provinces who transport passengers occasionally to Gauteng do not qualify for exemptions.

Public transport operators who qualify for exemption and who have for some reason not registered as yet should contact the provincial leadership of their respective organisations or the department for assistance.
