Correctional Services on rapid response by Officers

Rapid response by Correctional Officials prevents serious injuries

The rapid response of Correctional Officials, to an alleged gang fight last night (13 October 2015), at the Leeuwkop Medium A Correctional Centre in Gauteng, prevented serious injuries.

According to preliminary investigations conducted by the Department of Correctional Services (DCS) in the Gauteng Regional, it is alleged that a gang fight occurred  in one of the cells at Leeuwkop Medium A Correctional Centre. Correctional Officials responded swiftly to the incident, after an alarm was raised. Two inmates, who sustained minor injuries, were taken to a local hospital for treatment, and are back in custody. The preliminary investigation indicates the offenders sustained injuries as a result of stabbing by window panes. A search operation was also conducted. The Department wishes to clearly state that there was no escape at the centre, as alleged by some media. Investigations into this matter are continuing.

Correctional Services remains committed to ensuring that the safety and security of inmates, officials and service providers in all its 243 correctional centres, is not compromised. Offenders and officials who flout any rules and regulations of the department, will face the consequences of their actions.
