The programme was aimed at welcoming the health professionals to the public service of the Eastern Cape Department of Health and to orientate them on public service acts and regulations and all clinical management protocols.

It was further aimed at developing the skills of the professionals in managing and leading excellent patient care as well as maintaining optimal ethical standards in professional practice.

Senior manager for the Customer Care Directorate, Mr Mncedi Javu was among the people who made presentations to the new health professionals, and he encouraged them to make use of local languages when communicating with patients and educate during consultations.

“As change agents, you should make sure that Batho Pele Principles and patients rights are adhere to,” he said.

The health professionals were grouped into commissions where they were allowed to voice out their experiences, appreciations, challenges and frustrations in the institutions they have been placed at. Ways of overcoming those challenges were also discussed.
