Commission for Gender Equality and Department of Women, Children and People with Disabilities monitor gender based violence case in Hammanskraal

The Commission for Gender Equality (CGE) and the Department of Women, Children and People with Disabilities (DWCPD) have been attending the case in Temba Magistrates Court, of a woman whose husband allegedly shot her 8 times and dumped her in the bushy gravel road on farms in Warmbaths in 2008.

The woman miraculously survived the whole night and the following day was found by a passerby who called the ambulance and she was admitted in the ICU and survived to tell the story and lay a charge against her husband. The case started in 2009 and has been postponed or remanded several times due to unavailability of his expert.

In light of 16 Days of Activism on No violence against Women and Children, the Commission for Gender Equality, the Department of Women, Children and People with Disabilities together with other Civil Society Organisation (CSOs) who have shown interest will be monitoring this case tomorrow in Hammanskraal.
