CGE monitors human trafficking case in Welkom

The Commission for Gender Equality (CGE) will be monitoring a human trafficking case in Welkom as the perpetrators of this crime appear in court on 1 October 2010. The CGE has publicly stated that human trafficking should be given a red card across the globe as it robs people of their basic fundamental human rights.

It is critical that in South Africa this phenomenon is nipped in the bud before it escalates to higher proportions. It is upon this background that the CGE calls for a verdict that will see the perpetrators receiving the stiffest sentence. This would send a strong message to human traffickers that this act cannot be tolerated.
