Blackheath taxi driver arrested after being discharged from Kuilsriver Hospital

As Western Cape MEC of Community Safety I can implement several law enforcement measures to ensure safety on our roads, but I cannot police the desire of some people to break the law.

Last week a taxi driver decided to ignore the rules of the road, and abruptly, with no warning, ended the lives of ten (10) children. His life was spared and he now has to face the music.

The driver was discharged from the Kuilsriver Hospital today and was immediately arrested on charges of culpable homicide. He is being held at the Mfuleni Police Station and will appear in the Blue Downs Magistrates Court on Tuesday morning.

Someone found guilty of such gross disregard for human life should face the full force of the law and should not receive any leniency from the court.

While nothing can bring back those ten (10) children to their families and loved ones, hopefully the arrest of this taxi driver is a step in the right direction as we strive to stop the carnage on our roads through our Safely Home Campaign.
