Basic Education Minister Angie Motshekga conveys condolences to families of deceased Free State learners and wishes speedy recovery to those injured
The Minister of Basic Education Mrs Angie Motshekga has conveyed her deepest condolences and sympathy to the families of the learners who passed away in an accident this evening in the Free State.
Senekal Police have confirmed that 6 learners died on the scene when the bus they were travelling in overturned after a wheel became loose and the driver lost control of the bus.
The accident occurred along the R70 between Senekal and Ventersburg, Free State. The bus was transporting school children from Riebeeckstad Hoërskool.
The incident involves about 43 female patients from an all girls sport event.
They were on the way from an outdoor event in Moolmanshoek near Rosendaal to Riebeeckstad in Welkom
Free State EMS, Private EMS, Traffic Officers & SAPS attended to the scene of the accident with EMS college joining.
Those injured were transported to various hospitals in Welkom & Senekal. Minister Motshekga expressed her sadness.
“Our prayers are with the families and relatives of the deceased. This is not the kind of news which any parent can expect when their children have gone out on a school excursion. We hope that an investigation will shed light on what happened,” she said.
