Auditor-General’s report

Ms Buyelwa Sonjica, Minister of Water and Environmental Affairs, has acknowledged the Auditor-General’s report on his findings with regard to the activities of the suspended Director-General (DG) of the Department of Water Affairs, Ms Pam Yako, which report was tabled in Parliament yesterday.

The Auditor-General (AG) was investigating allegations of financial irregularities and information alleging maladministration and mismanagement. Minister Sonjica gave Ms Pam Yako special leave to allow for an unfettered process of investigation.

Minister Sonjica said, “I will reflect on the report and engage with the AG as well. I will also seek advice from the minister at the Department of Public Service and Administration (DPSA) as quickly as possible to see how we can take the matter forward. We must also remember that since the DG’s special leave, an audit was also carried out under the direction of the AG’s office.

All of these matters will now be considered in finding a way forward on the matter and hopefully a quick conclusion on the matter will be reached. The Ministry and Department of Water Affairs as part of government broadly is still committed to clean and efficient governance and therefore we shall look into these outcomes with the seriousness that they deserve.”
