Arrest criminals who attack the community and foreign nationals

MEC Kgaogelo Lekgoro visited Khaya Sands following an outbreak of attacks on foreign nationals. Currently authorities are working to identify people who were affected. Authorities are also trying identify how many people fled their homes. The police are in the area to restore calm.

“We were informed that there were people who had been plotting to attack foreign nationals from Sunday night. We were also informed that these foreign nationals decided to sleep elsewhere and only come back to work in their spaza shops in the morning. We then visited the area where we found a different picture altogether. We found that three shops were looted by criminals who are also targeting South African citizens” said MEC Lekgoro.

“We expect justice to take its course on the those who have already been arrested. We urge community members to come forward with all the relevant information,” said MEC Lekgoro.

At the time of the MECs visit seven people were arrested and the police were still following leads for more people involved.
