Applications for special temporary permits for 2010 FIFA World Cup events to close on 28 February 2010

The Eastern Cape Department of Transport wishes to remind all public transport operators, who would like to apply for special temporary permits for 2010 FIFA World Cup events that this process will be closed on 28 February 2010.

The requirements in respect of the applications are:

* in respect of contracted operators, a letter or certificate from the host city or public institution
* a copy of current operating license or permit
* vehicle registration and licensing, showing roadworthiness thereof
* tax clearance
* non refundable application fee of R100

The contracting public institution must check that:

* The operator is a fit and proper person
* The vehicle is suitable vehicle (Department of Transport has accredited certain testing stations for this inspection and those could be accessed in the Department of Transport’s website http://www.ectransport.gov.za/)
* The driver has a professional driving permit

Further, the host city will be providing its operational plan to the Operating Licensing Board for guidance in the issuing of temporary operating licenses or permits and detailing the routes that will be affected. In the case of non-contracted service, the host city will be consulted to comment on the need, based on its operational plan to prevent oversupply.

Further, we have established a working team to craft a notice detailing the processes involved in the acquiring of a temporary or special operating license for the period of the games and after the games (that is: a period of two months), comprised of public transport, communications and traffic management.
