Another suspect arrested in connection to KwaDukuza taxi killing

MEC for Transport, Community Safety and Liaison, Mr Willies Mchunu has commended the SAPS together with the Provincial Taxi Violence Task Team Unit for their swift move in apprehending another suspect linked to KwaDukuza shooting at Shaka’s Kraal, Umhlali yesterday morning (22 October 2013) morning.

Reports reveal that a 42-year old suspect was found in possession of a 9 mm pistol with 13 live rounds. He will be charged with two counts of murder and three counts of attempted murder as well as possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition. Recovered firearms will be sent for ballistic tests to establish if it was used during the attack of the victims. He will appear in court tomorrow.

This is subsequent to the arrest of three suspects who were arrested last week after a taxi operator and a driver were killed on R102 in Groutville. Justice Mthethwa (50), Mbhekiseni Luthuli (27), and Mthunzi Mathenjwa (29) were found in possession of two rifles and one revolver.

Mchunu has commended the members of the police for their quick breakthrough in apprehending yet another suspect.

"Such a quick move by our police shows true dedication and commitment that criminals will not have the upper hand. I would like to commend our police for working tirelessly in making sure that criminals are brought to book. If there are still more suspects out there, I want to assure them that police will leave no stone unturned until they are arrested," said Mchunu.
