Acting North West Premier Paul Sebegoe gazettes election date for provincial legislature

Acting Premier Paul Sebegoe today issued a proclamation calling and setting the 7 May 2014 as voting date of the North West Provincial Legislature.

The provincial proclamation dissolving the provincial legislature was gazetted in terms of Section 108(2) of the Constitution of the Republic of South Africa and Section 18 of the Electoral Act 1998 after consultation with the Electoral Commission to give effect to the announcement of National and Provincial elections made by President Jacob Zuma on 7 February 2014.

In terms of the two pieces of legislation, election of the provincial legislature has to be held within 90 days of its dissolution.

Members of the Provincial legislature will remain members until on the day of elections while Members of the Provincial Executive Council (Exco) will remain in office until a new Exco is sworn in after elections.
