Acting MEC Wendy Nelson welcomes North Gauteng High Court decision on MDB

Bokone Bophirima Provincial Government remain vindicated by court judgment - Acting MEC Wendy Nelson

The Acting MEC for Local Government and Human Settlements Wendy Nelson wishes to welcome the decision made by the North Gauteng High Court in Pretoria to dismiss an urgent application made against the Municipal Demarcation Board (MDB) and Co-operative Governance Minister Pravin Gordhan, to stop the merge of some municipalities in the country. For instance in Bokone Bophirima the board has merged the Potchefstroom based Tlokwe municipality with Ventersdorp municipality after thorough public participation.

MEC Wendy Nelson said the provincial government has been vindicated by the judgment. “The provincial government of Bokone Bophirima has always maintained that the processes leading to the decision by MBD have always been fair and transparent and that all the affected communities were engaged in the process. As the provincial government we wish to welcome the decision made by the court” remarked MEC Nelson.

The provincial Department of Local Government and Human Settlements working together with councilors and senior management of both municipalities are at an advanced stage as they work tirelessly to ensure the establishment of one municipality and meeting the deadline.
