Accreditation process for stadium event – Nelson Mandela: A Life Celebrated

Any members of the media who wish to attend the City of Cape Town’s commemorative event at the Cape Town Stadium on Wednesday, 11 December 2013 must obtain separate accreditation ahead of the event. This is over and above the accreditation that media may have obtained at the Grand Parade for other commemorative events.

The stadium event – Nelson Mandela: A Life Celebrated – will serve as Cape Town’s memorial service to honour the life of Nelson Mandela. It is anticipated that a significant number of Capetonians will attend to mark Cape Town’s own tribute to Madiba. Already, 26 000 coupons have been collected.

Media can accredit at the Cape Town Stadium during the following times:

  • Monday 9 December 2013 from 14:30 – 16:00
  • Tuesday 10 December 2013 from 09:00 to 17:00
  • Wednesday 11 December 2013 from 09:00 – 13:00

Members of the media should go to the Stadium Accreditation Office located to the left of the main entrance to the stadium on Fritz Sonnenberg Road. Parking will be available at the stadium, but it should be borne in mind that road closures will be in place from 13h00 on Wednesday, 11 December 2013.

Members of the media will be required to provide their press cards, along with a valid form of identification, i.e. a driver’s licence, Identity Document or Passport when applying for accreditation.

As space is limited, each journalist must accredit for themselves (i.e. a group cannot send one representative) and we cannot guarantee that all journalists who apply for accreditation will be accommodated.

However, journalists may still collect the free coupons for the event at any Computicket, Shoprite, or Shoprite/Checkers outlets which will gain them entry into the stadium (but not the formal media area).
