2010 women's build volunteers to be empowered

The Department of Human Settlements in the North West is hosting a training programme for volunteers who participated during this year’s Women’s Build where 54 housing units were built for the vulnerable families in Tlhabologang Township, Coligny, North West.

This programme is an initiative of Minister Sexwale and provincial MEC Desbo Mohono. Mohono directed that all volunteers who participated during 2010 National Women’s Build be given training opportunities in the area of Human Settlement delivery.

About eighty volunteers from the area will be trained on financial literacy by one of the financial institutions First National Bank (FNB), which was part of this year’s Women’s Build Programme.

In due course, volunteers would further get a week’s training on Life Orientation by the National Youth Development Agency (NYDA), followed by the National Home Builders Registration Council (NHBRC). The NHBRC training will take a three months period where volunteers will be given technical skills and further be taken for practical training.

On completion of the training, volunteers will be issued with NHBRC accreditation certificates which will then give them opportunities to create jobs for themselves or establish their own construction companies.

The recent National Women’s Build Programme has significantly accelerated the pace and quality of housing delivery in the province. This programme has further strengthened the Public Private Partnership (PPP) initiative and promoted the spirit of Letsema.
