2010 Limpopo Department of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries Female Entrepreneur of the Year winners

The 2010 Department of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries Limpopo Female Entrepreneur of the Year awards hosted on 11 August 2010 at Bolivia Lodge in Polokwane was a day for women who contribute significantly to the agricultural, forestry and fisheries sectors as producers, entrepreneurs or workers.

Speaking during the awards, Limpopo Premier, Mr Cassel Mathale acknowledged that female producers and workers in these sectors played a meaningful role in the country’s economy.

He promised that the government will continue providing support to dedicated female farmers and farmers in general who make efforts to help their situation, than those who expect government to do everything for them. He also suggested that the prizes should increase in future.

Regina Magwede from Vhembe district walked away with a total of R432 500 in prize money and further business development of her farm from the Limpopo Department of Agriculture (LDA). She achieved this after being crowned champion in the top entrepreneur commercial's livestock sub-category as well as this year’s overall winner.

Each top position in all categories went with R32 500 prize except for the Top Young Entrepreneur, Best Subsistence Producer and Best Female Worker categories whose first prizes were R25 000 (each).

Top positions went as follows:

  • Rosina Tshisevhe (top entrepreneur commercial-horticulture and crops subcategory)
  • Ipopeng Fisheries (top entrepreneur commercial-fisheries subcategory)
  • Mavis Mathabatha (top entrepreneur commercial-processor subcategory)
  • Annikie Malukutu (top entrepreneur: export markets- horticulture and crops subcategory
  • Mamadi Vukanikusile Nursery (top entrepreneur smallholder- horticulture and crops subcategory)
  • Annah Tshirema (top entrepreneur smallholder-livestock subcategory)
  • Asnath Mafukasaga (top entrepreneur smallholder-fisheries subcategory) and
  • Leah Mogano (top entrepreneur smallholder-processor subcategory).

For the R25 000 first prize positions, it went as follows:

  • Tebogo and Phanyi project (top young entrepreneur)
  • Elizabeth Kekana (best female worker category) and
  • Flora Lamola (best subsistence producer).

The Limpopo Department of Agriculture hosted the awards in partnership with the SABC, TOTAL and NTK under the theme: "working together we can do more".
