Youth Build for Youth Month – Mogodi-ga-Manthata and Madikana Village, Molemole Municipality, Limpopo province

In celebrating the month of June, the Department of Human Settlements is calling upon South African youth, as our partner in the crafting of a vision for the future, to join us in accelerating the delivery of sustainable human settlements.

Next Thursday, 9 June 2011, Human Settlements Minister, Tokyo Sexwale will kick start Youth month activities via a programme Youth Build by unveiling in Molemole, Limpopo province, 76 houses that have been constructed by youth volunteers over the past four weeks. The Minister will be joined by Deputy Minister Zou Kota-Fredericks, Premier Cassel Mathale, MEC Soviet Lekganyane and other dignitaries.

The Molemole initiative is part of Human Settlements Vision 2030 which says that “a child born in 2010 would be 20 years old in 2030 and deserving a place to live in an apartment a flat, a house in the urban areas or on the country side”.

This initiative also resonates with the Youth Round Table which saw the Minister engaging with leaders of youth organisations throughout the country including those from various political formations.

Again, the Molemole initiative is also a sign post along the road to the forthcoming Youth Summit in July 2011 where youth leaders will assemble to attach their signatures to the concept of Human Settlements Vision 2030.
