Yawa to blow the horn for a war against crime and corruption

North West MEC for Public Safety, Howard Yawa's 2009/10 Departmental Policy Statement and Budget Speech which was postponed on Wednesday by the North West Provincial Legislature continues tomorrow, Friday, 10 July 2009 at 09h00.

Key highlights of MEC Yawa's call to action titled "Beating the drum for a war against crime" addresses among others:

  • findings of investigations into escapes from police custody loss of firearms by police and syndicates issuing fraudulent driver's licenses, marriage certificates, birth certificates and car registration certificates are to be highlighted
  • service delivery challenges observed during unannounced oversight visits to police stations
  • crime prevention through environmental design strategy pilot project
  • an integrated strategy to prevent and combat sexual offences
  • challenges of road safety road safety strategy
