Women in sport celebration

Following the derby match between the two Free State PSL soccer giants, Bloemfontein Celtic and Free State Stars, which coincided with the Women’s Day celebration on 9 August 2009 at Seisa Ramabodu stadium, the department forges ahead with its programme of celebrating women in sport.

The derby match on 9 August was spectacular with women supporters of Bloemfontein Celtic and Free State Stars parading together on the pitch of Seisa Ramabodu in their club attires. This was despite of the apparent rivalry between their clubs. The department contributed to this activity by purchasing 400 tickets for these women to be part of this special soccer match.

As part of the women’s month celebration a sport bonanza will be hosted to continue to honour women in sport as follows:

Date: Saturday, 15 August 2009
Venues: Mmabana Sport Centre, R T Mogopa School and Selosesha Stadium in Thaba-Nchu
Time: 10h00

More than 800 ladies from across the province will compete in a variety of sporting activities. These sporting activities include the following: volleyball; rugby; netball; soccer and marathon.

The 2009 women in sport celebration, is aimed at reminding women to stay active and healthy.

So get your tekkies, shorts and t-shirt and come to cheer or take the challenge on August 15 starting at 10h00 in Thaba Nchu.
